Changing Skies: Why This Blog Exists
If you’ve ever looked up at the sky (or lived in Saskatchewan), you know how quickly the sky can change.
Clear and blue one moment. Cloudy the next. Sometimes the storm rolls in slowly enough that you can see it coming. Other times, it feels like it appears out of nowhere.
I think life can feel a lot like that.
There are seasons where things feel steady, where we feel like ourselves and know where we’re going. And then there are seasons of grief, anxiety, change, trauma, uncertainty, or just… a lot. Sometimes we know exactly what changed. Other times, we just know that things don’t feel the way they used to.
That idea is at the heart of One Sky Wellness and the reason I chose to call this blog Changing Skies.
A space for the things we’re all trying to figure out
As a therapist, I spend a lot of time talking with people about things that don't always have simple answers.
How do I set a boundary without feeling guilty?
Why does my body react like something is wrong when I know I’m safe?
Why do I keep falling into the same patterns?
How do I cope when something happened that I can’t change?
How do I stop overthinking everything?
What if I know all the coping skills and I’m still struggling?
And sometimes:
Is it normal to feel this way?
Changing Skies is a place to explore questions like these outside of the therapy room.
I’ll be writing about mental health, trauma, relationships, emotional regulation, anxiety, grief, boundaries, burnout, addictions, life transitions, and the messy reality of being a person trying to navigate it all.
There will be practical tools and information about approaches I use in my work, including EMDR and DBT. But I also want this space to be about more than techniques and therapy terminology.
I want to talk about the human stuff.
P.S. Keep an eye out here for any exciting updates!
Because change isn’t always a bad thing
We often talk about change as something we need to cope with. And sometimes, that's exactly what it is.
But change can also mean healing. Growth. Learning something about yourself. Setting a boundary you never thought you could set. Responding differently to something that used to completely overwhelm you. Letting go. Starting again. Or realizing that the version of you who survived one season doesn't have to be the version of you who enters the next.
Healing doesn't mean the sky stays blue forever.
There will still be storms.
The goal isn't to never feel anxious, sad, angry, overwhelmed, or uncertain again. It's learning how to understand what's happening within you, how to care for yourself through it, and how to keep moving when things inevitably change.
So, welcome to Changing Skies.
Whether you're currently in therapy, thinking about starting, supporting someone you love, or simply trying to understand yourself a little better, I hope you find something here that makes you stop and think:
Oh. That makes sense.
Maybe you'll learn a new skill. Maybe you'll find words for something you've been experiencing. Maybe you'll feel a little less alone in something you've been carrying.
Or maybe you'll simply be reminded to look up.
The sky changes. So do we.
